Pizza fats

An average pizza, of a normal plate dimensions, dressed with tomato, mozzarella and basil, of 140 grams of weight, gives about 380 calories: 270 for every 100 grams. For the same weight, normal bread gives 290 calories.


 

It contains 8 grams of proteins approximately (from the mozzarella), 8 of fats (mostly from the olive oil) and 74 grams of carbohydrates.

The various types of pizza are of course very different from each other, thus their calorie count is up to their toppings and additions. In fact, you can easily reach 750 calories with a “quattro stagioni” pizza.

Pizza can be considered a constant presence in the famous Mediterranean Diet, besides than being the most famous product of this alimentation style. The Pizza Margherita ingredients are for instance of valuable importance in the Mediterranean diet: “farina di cereali”, water, olive oil, fresh tomato and mozzarella cheese.

Cereals give pizza complex carbohydrates of more long absorption than simple carbohydrates like the ones that come from sugars: they fill and give enough energy without affecting the “tasso di glucosio”.

Henceforth, they neutralize hunger and they limit the need for more food, helping to lose weight. The pizza dough contains amino acids like normal meat.

The olive oil is the principal ingredient of Mediterranean diet, being the most healthy fats source, rich of HDL (cholesterol that helps to keep arteries clean) and of vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Mozzarella is rich of lisin and metionin, that are animal proteins contained in the cheese.


Tomato is a source of vitamins as well that contributes in large measure for a healthy alimentation.

Herbs such as basil and oregano have got antidispeptic and antiseptic properties. They are anti-inflammatory as well and they ease digestion.

Garlic is used in toppings as well, and its benefical properties are known and scientifically recognised: it is an intestinal antiseptic, a cardiotonic and has got diuretic properties. Furthermore, oregano is an aid to expectorate, helping to cure bronchitis and tracheitis. It also stimolates hunger and is an antidolorific for rheumatysms.

Pizza is then a proud testimonial of a correct Mediterranean diet that has many beneficial effects. For instance, it helps to cure diseases such as arteriosclerosis, heart attack and hypertension. Protides contained in a pizza, iron and B1 and PP vitamins avoid uric acid formation.

For these reasons pizza is a valid alternative to meat and a good unique dish, that together with fruit and vegetables can completely satisfy the daily human requirements thanks to its vitamin and protein contribution.
